Europan 9: Sheffield
Runner-up: Edge Zip
The project
Edge Zip proposes the distribution of housing on the site in small groupings that allow permeability between the existing houses of Wybourn and the panoramic views over Sheffield. Each small grouping is around a shared space which is open to a public pedestrian route that runs along the ridge of the site.
Jury comments
The jury felt the angling of the housing in this solution acknowledged the opportunity for good oblique views across the city, visual permeability for the existing residents behind, and potentially a good skyline viewed from the city centre. The provision of two focal points with the playground and green space was sound, and the concept of the masterplan had good intentions of creating shared spaces. The jury recognised the architecture was striking and detailed.
